Bubb: Safety Comes First
Paul Bubb, Cal State Northridge athletic director, said the safety of the men’s basketball team won’t be compromised because the Big Sky Conference refused to schedule a day off between the Matadors’ games at Montana and Montana State in two weeks.
The Matadors must make a three-hour drive through the Rocky Mountains on the day they play Montana.
“If it’s icy and the conditions are bad, I won’t let the team make the drive,” Bubb said. “We won’t risk the safety of the kids.”
Conference Commissioner Doug Fullerton denied a request by Northridge to move its game at Montana State from Feb. 7, saying renovations to the Bobcats’ gym make it impossible. The Matadors play at Montana on Feb. 6, in a televised game.
