Dzierzynski’s Buzzer Shot Lifts SCC to Victory, 100-98
Adam Dzierzynski drove to the baseline and made a 15-foot jumper at the buzzer to give Southern California College a 100-98 victory over Cal Baptist in a Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Saturday at SCC.
After the Vanguards tied the score, 98-98, with 46 seconds remaining, SCC’s Rod Scheuerman set up the play with a steal with 14 seconds left.
Dennis Keane scored 32 points, making six of 12 three-point attempts, and Dzierzynski had 17 points and 14 assists for SCC (13-9, 2-2).
In Big West Conference women’s basketball:
Cal State Fullerton 65, Pacific 57 (OT)--The Titans’ Justine McMahan made a six-foot jumper at the buzzer to tie the score, 49-49, and send it into overtime. UC Irvine 81, Long Beach State 55--Megan Stafford scored 15 points, including three three-pointers, and had six assists to pace UC Irvine (9-8, 4-2).
In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball:
Southern California College 92, Cal Baptist 56--Amee Pina had 19 points and 10 assists for SCC (17-4, 4-0). Alana Kempton scored 18 points and Kristi Wright had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Vanguards.
At the Cal Poly Pomona men’s tennis tournament:
SCC’s Ulfuebrand advances to final--SCC’s Joakim Ulfuebrand defeated teammate Stefan Johansson, 6-1, 6-2, to advance to the championship match.
In Big West Conference men’s tennis:
UC Irvine 5, Nevada 2--Juniors Thomas Bohun and Andrew Cheney won their singles matches for the Anteaters, then teamed for an 8-3 victory in doubles. Bohun and Cheney are 3-0 in doubles this season for the Anteaters (2-1, 1-0), ranked 70th nationally.
