2 Children Injured in Separate Accidents

Two children were seriously hurt Monday afternoon when they were hit by cars in separate accidents in the San Fernando Valley, authorities said.

Richard McKenzie, 7, suffered a broken leg and several cuts when he was hit by a car in the 11800 block of Magnolia Boulevard in North Hollywood about 4:20 p.m., said Los Angeles police spokesman Eduardo Funes. The boy had darted in front of a car driven by Daniel Delaporre, officials said. Paramedics found Richard at the curb with his knapsack.

An ambulance took the boy to North Hollywood Park, from which he was flown to Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles in serious condition, said a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman.

An 18-month-old boy also was airlifted to Childrens Hospital after a neighbor backed his car over the child in his driveway. That accident happened about 1:30 p.m. in the 14200 block of Victory Boulevard in Van Nuys.

Police declined to release the names of the toddler or neighbor.

The boy suffered two broken legs, a lacerated liver and cuts on his face and back, said a a hospital spokesman. The child’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.
