Former King Rick Tocchet scored twice to lead the Phoenix Coyotes to a 4-2 victory over the struggling Vancouver Canucks on Monday night at Phoenix.

Tocchet, back from a two-game suspension stemming from a hit last week on Edmonton’s Ryan Smyths, scored with 4:52 remaining and followed with an empty-net goal with one second left.

Bob Corkum and Craig Janney also scored for the Coyotes (23-20-8), who beat the Canucks (12-31-8) for the second time in a week.

Pittsburgh 4, St. Louis 2--Former King Ed Olczyk had a goal and an assist as the Penguins scored three times in 70 seconds to chase goaltender Grant Fuhr in the first period and beat the slumping Blues at Pittsburgh.

The Penguins scored on two of their first four shots against Fuhr, then got a goal on their first shot against Jamie McLennan as the Blues’ winless streak extended to 0-5-1.

Colorado 2, Edmonton 1--Eric Lacroix deflected a shot past Oiler goaltender Curtis Joseph 1:49 into overtime to give the Avalanche a come-from-behind victory at Denver.

The win ended a rare three-game losing streak for Colorado and extended Edmonton’s regular-season winless streak to 13 (0-12-1) against the Avalanche. The Oilers defeated Colorado in a playoff game last year.

Dallas 5, Toronto 1--Darryl Sydor had a goal and three assists for a career-high four points as the Stars stretched their winning streak to five games with a victory at Dallas.

Jere Lehtinen, former Maple Leaf draft choice Grant Marshall, Sergei Zubov and Benoit Hogue added goals for the Stars.

Philadelphia 3, New York Islanders 1--Eric Lindros scored twice and had an assist and Rod Brind’Amour added a goal and two assists in the Flyers’ victory over the Islanders at Philadelphia.

Brind’Amour’s three points gave him 600 in his nine-season NHL career, while Lindros moved into seventh place on the Flyers’ all-time goals list with 216.

Ottawa 2, Tampa Bay 1--Daniel Alfredsson tied the score for the Senators on a power-play goal with six minutes left in the third period and then Janne Laukkanen’s goal with 55 seconds left in regulation lifted them to victory over the struggling Lightning at Ottawa.

Alfredsson also assisted on Laukkanen’s game-winner as Ottawa improved to 12-12-1 at home and extended Tampa Bay’s losing streak to 10 games.

New York Rangers 2, Washington 2--Andrew Brunette’s goal midway through the third period helped the Capitals extend their undefeated streak to five games with a tie with the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

Brian Leetch did not play for New York because of a compressed nerve in his right leg and is listed as day-to-day.
