It seemed the world watched Luke and Laura’s nuptials on the soap “General Hospital.” That event, plus other life-altering moments on other daytime dramas, are screened as part of “Births, Weddings, and Deaths: The Rituals of the Soap Opera,” the latest installment of the Museum of Television & Radio’s “Worlds Without End: The Art and History of the Soap Opera” screening series.

Ethan Hawke stars in “Great Expectations” as Finn, a scrappy kid from a Gulf Coast town who moves to New York and becomes a promising artist. There he encounters a childhood friend, the elusive Estella (Gwyneth Paltrow) and tries to woo her from her wealthy fiance. The film, which is loosely based on Charles Dickens’ classic novel, is directed by Alfonso Cuaron (“A Little Princess”) from a script by Mitch Glazer. Robert De Niro, Anne Bancroft, Chris Cooper and Hank Azaria round out the cast.

The eccentrics who live in the small, mythical town of Tuna, Texas, come to life in the acclaimed comedy “Greater Tuna,” with original cast members and co-creators Joe Sears and Jaston Williams playing all 20 wacky Tuna residents at the La Mirada Theatre.

The Wright Brothers means Orville and Wilbur at Kitty Hawk to most people, but to alternative-punk connoisseurs, it means NoMeansNo. That’s the Vancouver, Canada, band led by Rob and John Wright, who have been churning out tough, independent-minded music since 1981. They figure to be spotlighting their recent 10th album, “Would We Be Alive?,” when they hit Spaceland and the Foothill.
