Interstate Brands, the nation’s largest wholesale baker, is recalling HoHo’s, Twinkies and more than a dozen other types of snacks distributed in 21 states because they might have been contaminated by asbestos. California is not among those states. The snacks being recalled were prepared in a plant in a Chicago suburb where insulation being removed was inadvertently carried through the bakery. The company-ordered recall was undertaken even though Interstate executives don’t believe any snacks were contaminated. The recall includes 13 Hostess products and Dolly Madison cupcakes, almost all of which have expiration dates from Jan. 22 through Feb. 6. The HoHo’s being recalled have expiration dates ranging from Jan. 29 to Feb. 13. The products have a “57” code incorporated into the expiration date. The products can be returned to the place of purchase for a refund.
