Fireworks Show Set for Valley College

Share

Valley College will host a free Independence Day celebration, including a fireworks show by the company who has handled pyrotechnics for world events.

Pyro Spectacular of California will create Saturday’s fireworks show, scheduled to start about 9:30 p.m. The company has presented fireworks at two Olympics and at the transfer of Hong Kong to China earlier this year.

But fireworks are not the only entertainment scheduled for the celebration, to be held from 3 to 10 p.m. Live music and an 8 p.m. show by magician and hypnotist Mark Prine, is also scheduled.

Prine has told event organizers that before Saturday he will predict The Times’ front-page headline for Independence Day and keep it under lock and key until his show, event chairman Gene Waldman said.

Other entertainment will include balloon artists, acrobats and a raffle with more than 50 prizes. A variety of food from local restaurants will also be available, Waldman said.

Last year, more than 30,000 people attended the event and organizers expect at least that number this year, he said.

“It’s going to be seven hours of nonstop music and entertainment,” Waldman said. “We want this event to go on for many years. It’s part of making the Valley the best it can be.”

Proceeds will go to two Valley charities: the Halcyon Center of Child Studies and the HELP Group. Valley College is at 5800 Fulton Ave. For more information call (818) 781-1200, Ext. 7.
