Pacific Symphony assistant conductor Elizabeth Stoyanovich has been appointed associate conductor of the Spokane Symphony. Stoyanovich will remain with the Pacific for its 1998-99 season. The length of her appointment at Spokane is being negotiated, according to a spokeswoman for the orchestra. Generally, the positions are contracted for three years, the spokeswoman said. The first woman to hold a conducting position at the Pacific since it was founded in 1979, Stoyanovich was initially appointed for a year in 1996. Her contract, extended twice, expires July 31, 1999. Her first Spokane Symphony performance will be Oct. 3.
