A robbery suspect was arrested Friday while trying to make a getaway in a taxi, authorities said.

Ventura police arrested Joshua Garcia, 26, of Newbury Park on suspicion of robbery, attempted robbery, burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said Garcia tried to rob the Wells Fargo Bank branch inside Von’s Market on Main Street at 10:20 a.m. by passing a note to a teller. When police arrived, the suspect had fled empty-handed, authorities said.

While police were investigating that incident, a call came in reporting a robbery at the nearby Avenue Second Hand Store in the 1400 block of North Ventura Avenue, said Police Sgt. Ted Prell. The caller said the suspect left in a taxi.

Two minutes later, two officers stopped the taxi on Simpson Street. Inside was Garcia and an unreported amount of cash, police said. Garcia was in custody Friday at Ventura County Jail.
