Bohannons Win in Singles, Doubles in Hardcourt Event

Brothers Dave and Dan Bohannon advanced to the quarterfinals in 50 singles at the USTA National Men’s 50 and 55 Hardcourt Championships Thursday at Lindborg Racquet Club in Huntington Beach.

Dave Bohannon of Garden Grove defeated Frank Zebot of Laguna Beach, 6-2, 6-1. Dan Bohannon of Orange defeated Gordy Costa of Phoenix, 6-3, 6-0.

Five of the top eight seeded players in 50 singles and six of the top eight seeded players in the 55 division advanced.

The Bohannons, top-seeded in 50 doubles, defeated Dean Corley of Tempe, Ariz., and Phil Brooks of Berkeley, 6-1, 6-1.

In 50 doubles, Ray Robyn of Newport Beach and Brian Cheney of Chandler, Ariz., beat Horacio Tamborini and Dave Yanagucci of Arcadia, 6-2, 6-0; David Ahmed of Laguna Beach and Dennis Trout of Solvang defeated Peter Finch and Leo Fracalosy, both of Newport Beach, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2; Zebot and Steve Field of Laguna Beach beat Owen Gillen of Cathedral City and Glenn Grisillo of Reno, 6-1, 6-2.

In 55 doubles, Dick Leach and Ken Stuart of Newport Beach beat Bill Bethard of Los Angeles and Craig Edgecomb of Brentwood, 6-4, 6-4; Bob Duessler of Newport Beach and Hank Leichtfried of Irvine defeated Hill Griffin of Atlanta and Dick Landenberger of Dallas, 6-0, 6-3; Lenny Lindborg of Laguna Beach and Larry Dodge of Piedmont beat Bob Hodges and David Tucker of Phoenix, 6-1, 6-1.
