Connors Wastes No Time

Greg Connors certainly made the most of his three days in the Antelope Valley.

Connors, who rejoined the Lancaster JetHawks from Wisconsin on July 24, was selected Howe Sportsdata Batter of the Week for July 20-26.

Connors batted .538 (7 for 13) with three home runs, a double and 11 runs batted in during his short stint. His slugging percentage was 1.308 for the week.

Connors, a right-handed hitting catcher, batted just .188 in his first tour with the JetHawks, which lasted a month.

He is scheduled to return to Wisconsin by Aug. 10 so he can retain his postseason eligibility for the Timber Rattlers.

The JetHawks posted one of the best comebacks in team history Monday night, scoring six runs in the seventh and seven in the eighth to beat the Lake Elsinore Storm, 13-9, at the Hangar.

The JetHawks trailed, 9-0, entering the seventh, but by the time Cirilo Cruz hit the first grand slam of his career in the eighth, the JetHawks had a 12-9 lead. Cruz leads the California League with 89 RBIs.

Jayson Bass hit his 12th home run, a two-run shot in the fourth inning, but the JetHawks lost to the San Jose Giants, 9-2, on Tuesday night at the Hangar.

Bass’ home run gave the JetHawks a 2-1 lead but San Jose, which collected 17 hits, scored one in the fifth, three in the sixth, two in the eighth and two in the ninth.

Bass, Cruz and Ramon Vasquez each had two hits for the JetHawks.

SUNS

The Pacific Suns allowed nine runs in the first two innings and lost, 9-2, to the Bend Bandits at Bend, Ore.

Ryan Seidel and Frank Valdez each had two hits, including a double, for the Suns.

Reliever Mike Smith of Pacific extended his scoreless streak to 9 2/3 innings when he struck out two of three batters in the eighth.
