Texas outfielder Juan Gonzalez’s chase for Hack Wilson’s RBI record probably has ended.

Gonzalez missed his second straight game with tightness in his right hamstring Wednesday, and Texas Manager Johnny Oates expects him to miss three to five more games.

“We don’t think it’s a DL situation,” Oates said. “It’s a little worse than we thought it was. Yesterday it was tight and today it’s tender.”

Gonzalez leads the majors with 116 RBIs in 105 games. When Wilson set the record in 1930, he had 110 RBIs through 105 games.

“It’s a big disappointment to me because I wanted to play in 162 games this season because this team needs me,” Gonzalez said.

Milwaukee right-hander Cal Eldred may be out for the rest of the season because of a stress fracture in his right forearm, the club said.

Eldred, in his seventh season with the Brewers, left Sunday’s game against Montreal after one inning because of pain. He went on the 15-day disabled list Monday.
