Woodley Avenue Area to Be Closed for Work
As part of the East Valley Water Recycling Project construction, a half-mile portion of the westside lanes on Woodley Avenue in Van Nuys--from Victory Boulevard to Woodley Avenue Park--will be closed until at least December, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power officials said.
The closure is due to work underway to connect 54-inch-diameter water pipes from the Donald C. Tillman Water Reclamation Plant in the Sepulveda Basin to the pipes on Woodley Avenue.
Currently, 22,000 feet of pipe have been installed along Woodley, from Victory north to Sherman Way, and along Sherman Way between Woodley and Woodman, said Hoover Ng, manager of the DWP’s recycling program.
He added that an additional 3,000 feet of pipe has been installed at the Hansen spreading grounds near Sun Valley.
“The whole purpose of the project is for large-scale recycling of water, which will help drought-proof our area and increase the availability of supplies,” Ng said.
An additional 15,000 feet of piping, to run north on Woodman to Saticoy Street and east on Saticoy to the spreading grounds, will be installed in sections during the final months of the project, he said.
Completion of the $55-million project is slated for December or January, Ng said.
During the project, the eastside lanes of Woodley Avenue will remain open for two-way traffic, he said.
