Crescenta Valley’s Torres Has Sturdy Staff to Lean On

Coach Phil Torres refuses to take too much credit for the success of his team at Crescenta Valley, which plays Saturday in the Southern Section Division I baseball championship game.
After the Falcons (24-3-1) defeated Palmdale, 3-2, in a quarterfinal game, Torres said assistants Darrin Beer, Dave Mendoza and Paul Biggs deserve more credit.
“All I do during the game is manage, [complain] and moan,” Torres said. “Those guys do all the coaching.”
Baaaaaad Team: Charter Oak, which lost to Burroughs, 10-0, in a Southern Section Division II playoff game, had two candidates that would qualify collectively for the all-name team.
Jason Woolley was the starting pitcher. His catcher was Bryan Lamb.
