A women’s water polo team has been established at Ventura College, the first in the college’s 73-year history.

The first women’s polo class is set for June 15. Classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the physical education department.

Scott Lee Parrish has been hired to coach the team, officials said. In 1985, Parrish was named Most Valuable Athlete for men’s water polo at Ventura College.

He has been head coach of the women’s water polo team at California Polytechnic State University since 1996. From 1993 to 1995, he served as an assistant coach for Ventura College’s men’s water polo and the men’s and women’s swimming program.

“Ventura College continues to make ground in gender equity in its athletic curriculum,” said Dick James, the college’s athletic coordinator.
