Gillespie Won’t Play in All-Star Game
Eric Gillespie (Cal State Northridge) of the Lake Elsinore Storm was selected to play in the California League all-star game, but he is on the disabled list with a hand injury and won’t return until the end of July. Gillespie, who has played third base and right field this season, is batting .316 with 12 doubles and three home runs in 98 at-bats. He injured his hand diving to first base May 16. The game will be played Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. at The Hangar in Lancaster.
Gabe Kapler (Taft High, Moorpark College) had a streak of five consecutive games with a home run last week. The Jacksonville outfielder was selected Southern League player for May after batting .336 and driving in 36 runs in 27 games.
