Two accidents, one resulting in major injuries, occurred on county freeways Sunday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The first was at 1:40 p.m., when a vehicle traveling westbound on California 118 veered off the road and careened 75 feet down an embankment near the Rocky Peak Fire Road in Simi Valley, just northwest of the Los Angeles County line.

Two unidentified occupants were thrown from the vehicle and sustained major injuries, a CHP spokeswoman said. They were taken to Simi Valley Hospital.

Ten minutes later, two cars collided on the southbound Ventura Freeway just south of Victoria Avenue in Ventura, resulting in minor injuries for both drivers, the spokeswoman said. Neither party was taken to a hospital.

That accident backed up southbound freeway traffic for about an hour, according to the CHP.
