Littlerock Teen Fatally Shot During Street Altercation
Police were searching Monday for suspects in the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy on Vincennes Street.
Steven Alvarez of Littlerock was shot about 9 p.m. Sunday outside a residence in the 14600 block of Vincennes Street, said Det. Stephen Fisk of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Van Nuys station.
Fisk said Alvarez and two friends were walking along the street when they encountered two young men on foot. Alvarez was shot after an argument began between the two sets of friends, police said.
Paramedics pronounced Alvarez dead at the scene. His friends were treated at Mission Community Hospital in Panorama City for gunshot wounds that were not life threatening, Fisk said.
Police said Alvarez was not known to be a gang member, but his two friends were “associated” with gangs. Police did not know why Alvarez was in the area.
Fisk said Alvarez’s friends were not cooperating with investigators. They would not provide authorities with descriptions of the suspects.
“These guys are making it very difficult,” Fisk said. “They are leading us astray.”
