These Sports Are Tough to Watch

Curious about all the hype that NASCAR is supposed to be America’s fastest-growing sport, I’ve tried during the past year to watch as many televised races as I could. My conclusion is that NASCAR racing is not a true sport.

Under the excuse of keeping a level playing field, NASCAR constantly changes the rule for races and the specifications for cars. The truth is that NASCAR wants to have the cars run bunched up so there is more opportunity for crowd-pleasing crashes. At least the folks who stage the Indy 500 admit to what it’s all about. They tout the 500 as a “spectacle.”

After several attempts to watch an entire women’s pro basketball game, I must take the politically incorrect posture and say that I am not a fan. You need to show me more than layups and jump shots, no matter how spectacularly it is promoted.

A recent headline: “7-2 WNBA player nearly makes first dunk.” Gee, how thrilling.

In the distance I hear the soothing sounds of a football team preparing for battle. Soon my pain will be gone.
