Twin brothers from Moorpark and a third youth from Las Vegas were in jail Wednesday on suspicion of attacking two Moorpark teenagers who were riding bikes near Moorpark College.

The attack occurred about 7:20 p.m. Tuesday as Lucas Treihaft, 18, and an unidentified 17-year-old boy pedaled their BMX bikes along a trail near Campus Park.

The two bicyclists were knocked to the ground and the three attackers focused on the 17-year-old, kicking and punching him in the face and body and choking him, sheriff’s officials said.

Witnesses said the assailants carried a baseball bat and an ax handle, but it was unclear whether the weapons were used, according to sheriff’s officials. The injured boys were taken by their parents to Simi Valley Adventist Hospital, where they were treated and released.

The three suspects were seen by a deputy shortly after the attack and were arrested after a brief foot chase, authorities said.

David and Daniel Parson, 18, were being held in Ventura County Jail on suspicion of felony battery and assault with a deadly weapon, according to authorities. Bail for each was $20,000, with arraignment scheduled for today. The 17-year-old Las Vegas youth was being held at Juvenile Hall, sheriff’s Det. Ernie Montagna said.

Authorities were uncertain of the motives but said the Moorpark youths are high school students and apparently know each other.

“There might have been grudges of some kind, but we can’t make that out yet,” Montagna said.
