Officers Save Baby Left Unconscious After Tub Accident

Two sheriff’s deputies saved the life of a 3-month-old boy over the weekend after they administered CPR to the unconscious infant and kept him breathing until paramedics arrived, authorities said.

The boy, Isaiah Palazuelos, slid under the water while his grandmother, Maria Gonzales, was bathing him around 6:10 p.m. Saturday, officers said. When Gonzalez pulled Isaiah to the surface, he was unresponsive and not breathing, she told police.

The infant was unconscious and still not breathing when Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputies Dave Brantley and Juan Benavides responded to the emergency call on Perry Way.

After Brantley revived the child with cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Benavides maintained an open airway until the ambulance arrived.

Isaiah was transported to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard and was treated and released Saturday night, a nursing supervisor said.
