Development Chief Opposes Project

Community Development Director Nelson Miller plans to recommend that the City Council not grant developer West Pointe Homes permission to amend its application in order to build 350 homes.

The city originally approved the developer’s request to build 70 homes on a 350-acre parcel west of Walnut Canyon Road, about half a mile north of Casey Road. Last October, however, West Pointe Homes asked to revise its proposal to allow for development of 420 homes.

The City Council on Wednesday will consider the developer’s latest request, which calls for scaling back the project to 350 houses. Miller plans to ask the council to reject the request until officials consider an update of the city’s General Plan, its blueprint for future development.
