Runners Dash to Help Fund Police Programs

Share

Middle-distance runners will test their speed and endurance Saturday at the Devonshire Dash, an annual event to raise money for community-based police programs.

Sponsored by the Police Activity League Supporters (PALS) and Supporter of Law Enforcement in Devonshire (SOLID), the seventh annual event consists of competitive 5K and 10K runs and a noncompetitive 5K walk around the Cal State Northridge campus, said Mary Ann Conron, president of PALS.

Conron said race proceeds will help fund SOLID and PALS activities.

SOLID provides equipment for the Devonshire Division that the city cannot afford, such as computers, cameras, binoculars and equipment upgrades.

All races begin near 9352 Zelzah Ave. between Nordhoff and Lassen streets.

Starting time is 8 a.m. for the 5K run and walk, and 8:20 a.m. for the 10K run.

Cash prizes will be awarded to top male and female runners in both the 5K and 10K races, Conron said.

Entry fees for the event are $10 for students, seniors and disabled participants, and $20 for others.
