Suspect in Irvine Bank Robbery Is Linked to Earlier Carjacking

Share

Authorities are looking for a man who robbed an Irvine bank this week and escaped in a stolen car that he had apparently claimed during a carjacking several days earlier.

On Monday afternoon, the man entered the Wells Fargo Bank on Culver Drive and handed a note to a teller demanding cash, said FBI Special Agent Gary K. Morley. The man then fled toward the Santa Ana Freeway in a 1997 green Mazda Millenia.

Morley said the car had been stolen at gunpoint from a couple on Friday, as they left a fast-food restaurant in the 2000 block of Bristol Street in Santa Ana. The suspect’s description in that incident matched that of the man who robbed the bank, Morley said.

The suspect is described as white, in his 30s, about 6-feet-2 and 220 pounds. He was clean-shaven, with short, reddish-blond hair. He wore a gold watch, bracelet and ring, blue cotton shorts and a greenish-blue T-shirt. He carried a green bag.

Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI office in Santa Ana at (714) 542-8825 or the Los Angeles office at (310) 477-6565.
