Cashman Out as Flyer Coach?

Wayne Cashman’s stay as Philadelphia Flyer coach reportedly will come to an end today after only 61 games.

According to The Sports Network in Canada, Cashman will be replaced by St. Louis Blues assistant coach Roger Neilson.

The Flyers were swept by the Detroit Red Wings in the Stanley Cup Finals last season, prompting the firing of then-coach Terry Murray.

Cashman was named replacement and the Flyers were the favorite to repeat as Eastern Conference champions, but have struggled.

Flyer center Eric Lindros could be out 10 days to two weeks because of a concussion suffered when he was checked by Pittsburgh defenseman Darius Kasparaitis during Saturday’s loss to the Penguins. Lindros spent the night at a Pittsburgh hospital and flew home Sunday.

St. Louis Blues forward Pavol Demitra is out for the remainder of the regular season because of a broken jaw but is expected to return for the start of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Demitra was hit in the face by a slapshot off the stick of Al MacInnis in Saturday’s game against Dallas Stars.

The Blues recalled Michel Picard from Grand Rapids of the International Hockey League.

Dick Schultz, executive director of the U.S. Olympic Committee, told the Washington Post he thinks he knows which “two or three” members of the U.S. men’s hockey team trashed hotel rooms at the Winter Games, adding that the entire 23-member team will be disciplined if the culprits do not step forward.
