Mission College to Cut Back Summer Classes

Share

The number of courses for the summer session offered at Mission College will be reduced by one-third as a result of budget cuts, officials said.

After offering 66 classes last summer, Mission will have about 44 in the upcoming six-week summer session, said Bill Norlund, president of the community college.

“Funding is the main reason we’re cutting back, and we’re trying to keep within our budget,” Norlund said.

“But we’re going to be offering the classes that were the most popular last summer.”

All courses offered in the summer session, which begins June 22, will be transferable to four-year colleges, he said.

Applications for the summer session are available in the admissions office on the Sylmar campus, 13356 Eldridge Ave., between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday and Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Summer session applications for Mission’s Program for Accelerated College Education, or PACE, are also available. Classes for the nine-week accelerated program begin June 8.

Fees for regular summer session and PACE courses are $13 per unit.
