Stevenson, OCC Stop Fullerton

Although Fullerton put the tying runs on with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Orange Coast starter Eddie Stevenson got a strikeout to end the game and preserve a 7-5 victory for the Pirates in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Tuesday at Fullerton.

Jon Fenoglio, who had three hits and two runs batted in, singled home pinch-runner Brandon Thompson to break a 5-5 tie in the ninth for Orange Coast (10-11, 3-7 in conference). Thompson pinch-ran for Chad Gonzalez, who hit a one-out double.

Fullerton is 11-9-1, 3-5.

In other conference games:

Cypress 5, Golden West 4--Rickey Leach hit a home run in the bottom of the seventh to break a 4-4 tie for Cypress (13-9, 6-4).

Golden West is 11-9, 4-6.

Saddleback 14, Santa Ana 1--Ryan Poe (5-1) pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts and one walk for host Saddleback (15-6, 5-5). Greg Pines hit a three-run homer and Levi Groomer hit a three-run double for the Gauchos.

Santa Ana is 19-5, 6-4.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:

Saddleback 6, Golden West 3--Jason Gavilan and Bert Gonzell won in doubles, 6-2, 6-2, for visiting Saddleback.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis:

Orange Coast 5, Fullerton 4--Camella Jaeger defeated Fullerton’s Meghan Walsh, 6-3, 6-1, for Orange Coast (7-3-1, 5-2).
