Woman Sues County Over Electrical Shock

A Ventura woman has filed a lawsuit saying she received a disabling electric shock while walking down a hall at the Ventura County Medical Center.

Eleanor Kirouff, 38, works for the Oxnard Union High School District Adult Education Program as an instructor for the nursing program.

In June, she was walking with one of her students through a hall, instructing her on neonatal care, “when she was impacted by high-voltage electricity which was allowed to escape due to negligence,” said her attorney, Robert McSorley.

The electrical shock resulted in permanent damage to Kirouff’s left arm, resulting in medical expenses and lost wages, the suit says.

McSorley said there was remodeling or construction on the floor at the time of the incident.

“Defendants . . . negligently, recklessly and unlawfully failed to take steps to either make the condition safe or to warn [Kirouff] of the dangerous condition,” stated the lawsuit, which was filed Monday against Ventura County.

Attorneys for the county could not be reached for comment.
