2 Bank Robbery Suspects Caught After Long Chase

After leading police officers on a high-speed, 100-mile chase, two bank robbery suspects were apprehended after they crashed their car into the center divider on the southbound Harbor Freeway on Thursday, causing a monumental traffic jam, authorities said.

The two suspects were involved in a takeover robbery of a Bank of America branch in Bakersfield and tried to escape in a stolen car, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The suspects fled from the smoking car after it crashed near Vernon Avenue, and weaved their way through traffic. They leaped over a wall and began running toward a garage. Police officers followed them and they were captured withing minutes, said CHP Officer Rhett Price.
