The body of a woman who apparently died of smoke inhalation was found Friday by firefighters responding to a fire at her apartment.

Capt. Donald Mahany of the Santa Ana Fire Department said the fire apparently started as the woman was cooking. Although it caused only minor damage to the apartment on West MacArthur Boulevard, “the smoke was from ceiling to floor,” Mahany said.

The victim was identified as Elisabeth R. Doyle, 65.

“By the positioning of the body, it is thought that she was making her way to the doorway and just didn’t make it,” Mahany said.
