Isgar Returns to Haunt Titans, Lead Rebel Win

Nevada Las Vegas pitcher Brandi Isgar returned to Cal State Fullerton for the Kia Klassic softball tournament and saw her team lose its first four games. Saturday, however, Isgar beat her former teammates as the Rebels defeated the Titans, 4-2, in a consolation game at Cal State Fullerton.

Isgar transferred from Cal State Fullerton to UNLV at the end of her sophomore year, blaming the move on personality differences with the coaching staff.

“I didn’t get along with the coaches,” said Isgar, a senior. “I didn’t have any problems with the program itself, but I am really happy now at UNLV.”

Saturday, Isgar went the distance for the Rebels, giving up two earned runs on three hits and striking out five. After losing twice to the Titans last season, Isgar was happy to turn the tables.

“It feels really good,” she said. “Not because we beat them, but because I finally had a good game.”

Isgar (7-10) held the Titans (14-15) scoreless through the first five innings, before giving up two runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth. Isgar’s troubles in that inning started when the bandage covering a cut on her right index finger slipped off.

The Titans, after upsetting fourth-ranked Oklahoma State in pool play, lost to San Diego State Friday night in the first round before losing to the Rebels.

Chrissy Hartman (4-4) started because the Titans were resting Jana Oetgen, who pitched two games Friday. Hartman pitched six innings, giving up four earned runs on six hits.

Six UNLV runners were stranded in the first five innings, before the Rebels (13-13) finally broke through, scoring three runs on three hits in the top of the sixth.

Fullerton rallied to make it 3-2, scoring two runs in the bottom of the inning on RBI singles by Wendi Griffin and Brenda Iglesias.
