Documentaries set for this weekend run the gamut from a look at female basketball players to a chronicle of opera singers on the silver screen to an exploration of Siamese twins.

Jon Alpert and Maryann DeLeo are the directors of “A Cinderella Season: The Lady Vols Fight Back” tonight at 7 on HBO. The documentary follows Tennessee’s Lady Volunteers as the team attempts to win its second consecutive NCAA women’s basketball title during the 1996-97 season.

‘Barney’ broadcast--”Barney’s First Adventure” will air Saturday at 7 a.m. on KTTV-TV Channel 11. Thursday’s Weekend TV column listed an incorrect time.

PBS’ “Great Performances” presents “The Art of Singing: Golden Voices, Silver Screen” Friday at 9 p.m. on KCET-TV Channel 28. Thomas Hampson hosts the program, which examines the film performances of such opera greats as Enrico Caruso, Maria Callas and Joan Sutherlund. Among the clips included is Caruso in the 1919 film “My Italian Cousin.”

TNT presents “The Warner Bros. Story: No Guts, No Glory” Sunday at 5 and 8:30 p.m. The documentary, hosted by Dustin Hoffman, celebrates the studio’s 75th anniversary. Featured are clips, outtakes and interviews with such stars as Clint Eastwood, Sandra Bullock,, Morgan Freeman and Mel Gibson.

Today

“American Dance,” at 7 p.m. on Bravo, chronicles the history of dance in America.

Greg Evigan and Brenda Bakke headline ABC’s “Crimes of Passion: Nobody Lives Forever” at 9 p.m. on Channel 7. The thriller is based on the first novel by Miami crime reporter Edna Buchanan.

PBS’ “Mystery!” series presents a new installment of “Inspector Morse” at 9 p.m. on Channel 28. John Thaw returns as the popular detective who investigates the deaths of two neighbors who are murdered 24 hours apart with the same gun. Morse’s first name will finally be revealed in this episode.

“Berenice Abbott: A View of the 20th Century,” at 10 p.m. on Channel 28, offers a profile of the American photographer.

Friday

Viewers get the chance to judge the performances of 12 champion skaters on CBS’ “The Great Skate Debate” at 9 p.m. on Channel 2. Scott Hamilton, Kristi Yamaguchi, Ekaterina Gordeeva, Katarina Witt and Kurt Browning are among those skating an original program to be judged on a one-to-10 scale by spectators and via the Internet.

Saturday

Everyone’s favorite purple dinosaur headlines the special “Barney’s First Adventure” at 8 a.m. on Channel 11.

Joan and Melissa Rivers recap the style do’s and don’t’s of this year’s Oscars on E! Entertainment Television’s “The 1998 Academy Awards Fashion Review” at 2 p.m.

The NCAA Tournament enters the Final Four with back-to-back games at 2:30 and 5 p.m. on Channel 2.

Sunday

KCOP presents live coverage of the 13th annual “Los Angeles Marathon” at 8 a.m. on Channel 13. Alan Frio and Ann Shatilla anchor the coverage of the 26.2-mile event, which will feature 20,000 runners in competition.

Tim Reid hosts “Ten Things Every Child Needs” at noon on Channel 5, a special featuring child-care experts Dr. T. Berry Brazelton and Bruce Perry talking about early childhood development.
