Ocegueda Heads Main Event Tonight

Junior welterweight Jaime Ocegueda of Norwalk brings an impressive 17-2-4 record into tonight’s main event at the Irvine Marriott against Jose Luis Cruz of Mexico City.

Ocegueda scored his biggest victory at the Marriott in September, 1996, when he won a 10-round split decision over Mark Lewis of Mira Loma. Ocegueda, who is 2-1-2 since beating Lewis, has won eight times by knockout. Cruz (7-3-3) has won once by knockout.

In the six-round semi-main event, light heavyweight Julio Gonzalez of Huntington Beach will try to improve his record to 9-0 against Jude Agu (2-0) of Las Vegas. Mexicali junior lightweight Yoni Vargas (3-1) highlights the four-bout undercard in a four-rounder against Torrance Brown (3-4) of Las Vegas.

Tickets are $35 and $25 and can be purchased at the Marriott. The undercard begins at 7:30 p.m.
