Girl, 2, Drowns in Backyard Pool

A 2-year-old girl drowned in a Pacoima swimming pool after she apparently wandered outdoors and fell in, police said.

The toddler, Kristen Swearengin of Alta Loma, was found in the backyard pool at a home in the 11900 block of Pierce Street about 8:15 p.m. Saturday, Los Angeles police Sgt. Jim Brady said. She had been in the water five to 10 minutes when she was discovered, Brady said.

The girl’s mother and other adults pulled her from the pool and tried to revive her, as did Los Angeles firefighters. But she had no pulse when she arrived at Pacific Hospital of the Valley and was pronounced dead, Fire Department officials said.
