Brian Kamler tied the score in the 88th minute and then got the game winner in the fourth shootout round as defending champion D.C. United defeated the New England Revolution, 2-1, Sunday.

Almost half of the 22,263 fans at RFK Stadium rooted noisily for former D.C. United forward Raul Diaz Arce and the Revolution, but United goalkeeper Scott Garlick stopped Diaz Arce’s shootout attempt in the fifth round.

The Revolution appeared headed for victory in its season-opener after Imad Baba beat Garlick in the 54th minute.

At least two United players made desperate attempts to touch Jaime Moreno’s pass before it found Kamler alone at the far post.

Revolution goalkeeper Ian Feuer, making his MLS debut, scrambled to get over but Kamler tapped the ball into the empty net.

Dallas 2, Columbus 1--Dante Washington scored in the 66th minute to give the Burn to a 2-1 victory over the Crew in front of 10,216 at the Cotton Bowl.

The Crew went ahead in the 12th minute when Brian McBride scored off a pass from Brian Maisonneuve. Dallas’ Gerell Elliott tied it in the 39th, redirecting a Jason Kreis shot past Juergen Sommer.
