Artesias Specialchic Is a Heavy Favorite
Looking for his sixth victory in his last seven starts, Artesias Specialchic is the 4-5 favorite for the $105,031 El Primero Del Ano Derby tonight at Los Alamitos.
Trained by Charles Treece for owner I. William Stratmore, the 3-year-old gelding was the fastest qualifier for the 400-yard Derby two weeks ago. In winning by a half-length, he was timed in 20.07 seconds. Eddie Garcia will again ride Artesias Specialchic.
Completing the field are the entry of The Band Plays On and Bux For Buck, the entry of Perspectives and Surly Robert, Balance My Budget, Thats A Gray Jazz, Chick Fols Native, Juvie and Outlaw Dasher.
On Saturday, Girl Secrets, who had the fastest qualifying time, is the likely favorite for the $100,000 La Primera Del Ano Derby, also at 400 yards.
