* South Coast League finals at Trabuco Hills HS, 1 today: The Mission Viejo girls’ team will be trying for its 16th consecutive league championship, Sisters Ashley and Dana Bethel of Mission Viejo are expected to run shoulder to shoulder in the 100 hurdles. The Bethels are the only athletes who can keep Trabuco Hills senior Darnesha Griffith from winning the high jump, long jump and triple jump. With Mark Gleason and Chris Kemp dominating the distance events, the Diablos are expected to win the boys’ title too. Mike McNair of Mater Dei is the favorite to win the 100 and 200, but he will be tested by Mike Chavis of Mission Viejo, Josh Saunders of Capistrano Valley and Julio Peraza of Dana Hills.

* Sunset League finals at Huntington Beach HS, 5 today: This league dominates the boys’ throwing and girls’ pole vault events in the county. Unfortunately, this depth will leave some good athletes out of the Southern Section Division I meet because only the top three from each event qualify. Esperanza’s trio of Travis Pendleton, Justin Birrell and Barrett Woods will be challenged by Sam Lightbody of Huntington Beach in the throwing events. In the girls’ pole vault, Katie Rorem set a county record in the pole vault this season (12-1), but she is just one of four Marina vaulters who have cleared 10 feet this season.
