Roy Scaffidi, hired as Estancia football coach on March 2, has resigned.

Scaffidi had been an assistant at El Modena before taking over for John Liebengood, who retired after 12 seasons. Scaffidi said responsibilities to a new wife with three children prevented him from continuing as Eagles’ coach.

Scaffidi will continue to teach a football class. Spring practice begins Monday.

Tom Wallace, who is completing 34 years of teaching and 25 years as boys’ athletic director at Kennedy High, will retire June 30.

“As a teacher, the kids remain the same age but you keep getting older,” Wallace said. “It’s time to turn it over to someone younger.”

Wallace, 58, will be replaced by Kennedy’s football coach, Mitch Olsen, who has been at the school for 12 years.

“The thing I’ll probably remember most was our first [Southern Section 3-A] championship in football in 1971,” Wallace said. “We had the [section 3-A] player of the year, Charlie Judge, on that team and I had been his coach when he was a sophomore.”
