In another league game:

El Toro 8, Newport Harbor 0--Charger Suzanne Guy (9-4) had a one-hitter and struck out 12 batters to shut out visiting Newport Harbor (7-12, 1-7).

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 5, Katella 1--Briana Vidovich’s triple drove in Tiffany Smith in the second inning and Samantha Kimura tripled home Caitlin Hayworth-Yasger, who doubled to lead off the third inning. Jill Jessen got the victory for El Dorado.

In the South Coast League:

No. 1 Mater Dei 5, Dana Hills 1--Liz Lefler homered in the seventh inning for Dana Hills’ only run. Dana Hills is 9-12, 3-5.

In the Empire League golf championships:

Hulse wins--Cypress’ William Hulse shot a 74 and 71 in two days to win the league title at Western Hills (par 70). Loara’s Daniel Jung also had a second-day 71 and finished second with a 146. Dusty Schmidt of Sunny Hills, Corey Fox of El Dorado and Cypress’ Steve Sterry also qualified for the Southern Section tournament.

In Orange League boys’ tennis:

Brea Olinda 15, Western 6--Brea Olinda (11-11, 9-1) clinched its fourth consecutive league championship. Eugene Ro and Du Eum led Brea, winning their doubles sets, 6-1, 6-2.

In Pacific Coast League volleyball:

University 3, Estancia 2--University won two matches to earn the league’s final playoff spot. Matt Larson had 32 kills in the win over Estancia and David Chin added 19 kills and Derek Tran 18 while setter Nima Farhadi had 85 assists. Larson also led University with 30 kills in the Trojans’ earlier victory over Aliso Niguel.

In the Sunset League:

Huntington Beach 3, Edison 0--Coach Rocky Ciarelli earned his 200th victory as Huntington Beach beat Edison, 15-11, 15-9, 15-8, in a playoff for third place. Huntington Beach, Edison, Esperanza and Los Alamitos were tied for third. Andrew Gurwell had 15 kills in the Huntington Beach victory over Edison. The Oilers beat Los Alamitos, 15-10, 11-15, 15-10, 15-4, to advance to the final round with Edison.
