From Associated Press

Frank Thomas knocked the ball loose from catcher Mike Macfarlane on a collision at the plate in the eighth inning, scoring the go-ahead run as the Chicago White Sox beat the Oakland Athletics, 5-3, Friday night.

Mike Sirotka (5-2) went the distance for the second time this season, giving up three runs and five hits. He struck out three and walked one.

Thomas drew a leadoff walk in the eighth off Mike Fetters (0-1) and one out later, Robin Ventura hit a drive off the center-field wall. The throw home beat Thomas but he smashed into Macfarlane, who lost the ball when he was bowled over.

Ventura took third on the throw and scored when Wil Cordero followed with a sacrifice fly.
