Alemany’s Woolf Wins Second Championship

Brian Woolf of Alemany High won his second consecutive Mission League individual golf championship Friday by finishing with a two-over-par 146 to beat Kevin Coghlan of Notre Dame by three strokes at Harding Golf Course in Griffith Park.

Woolf, who has signed with Arizona, shot a final round 73 and overcame a triple bogey on the third hole.

He advances to the Southern Section Northern individual regionals May 18 in Santa Barbara.

Also qualifying were Coghlan and Alemany’s Mike Scott. It was the third consecutive year Coghlan has qualified for the individual tournament.

In another golf match:

Tri-Valley League tournament No. 5--Led by John Andersen, who shot a two-over-par 74, L.A. Baptist scored 392 to finish a perfect league season and capture the league title by 58 strokes at Buenaventura Golf Course.

Oak Park finished second in the match with 416, for a total of 2,104.

Argyle Nelson of Oak Park aced the 135-yard par-three eighth hole with a nine-iron on his way to a 79.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Crespi 10, Harvard-Westlake 8--Andrew Pineda of Crespi defeated Adam Macy, 7-7 (7-3) at No. 2 singles to clinch the Mission League victory for the Celts (13-6, 7-5) at Crespi.

The victory was fourth-place Crespi’s first in nine years over league champion Harvard-Westlake. The Celts also were helped by a sweep at No. 1 doubles by Carlos Gil and Ray Purwadihardja .

Simi Valley 16, Channel Islands 2--No. 1 singles player Jeremy Quinlan swept all the games in three sets for Simi Valley (12-6, 8-6) in a Marmonte League match at Rancho Simi Community Park.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Newbury Park d. Channel Islands, 15-2, 15-4, 15-9--Robert Congelliere and Collin McKeown each had eight kills and Casey Patterson added 24 assists for Newbury Park (17-5, 11-3) in a Marmonte League match at Channel Islands.

Royal d. Agoura, 15-3, 15-4, 15-3--Cam Dickson and Diraj Coats each had six kills for the Highlanders (18-3, 14-0 in league), who finished their third consecutive perfect Marmonte League season and 10th consecutive championship season.

Harvard-Westlake d. Crespi, 15-12, 15-2, 15-13--James Spratt had 16 kills for the Celts in a Mission League loss at Crespi.

The Celts (13-3, 10-2), who also had 13 kills from Marcin Jagoda, still won a share of the Mission League title with Loyola.

Harvard-Westlake finished third in the Mission League.

Thousand Oaks d. Westlake, 15-5, 10-15, 11-15, 15-4, 15-12--Steve Pickett had 39 kills and Jared Kearns added 30 kills for Westlake (3-13, 3-11) in a Marmonte League home match that lasted 2 1/2 hours.

Kevin Stark led Thousand Oaks (10-4, 10-4) with 16 kills, while Shane Judd, Mark Kobal and Jack Parmele each added 14 kills.

Simi Valley d. Camarillo, 15-1, 16-14, 13-15, 15-2--Oliver Bell had 13 kills, 16 digs and four aces for Simi Valley (13-6, 9-5) in a Marmonte League match at Camarillo.
