Braswell Lets Harper Leave Northridge

Carloes Harper, a freshman guard on the Cal State Northridge basketball team, has obtained a release from Coach Bobby Braswell and is taking visits to Division II and NAIA schools.

Harper visited Cal State San Bernardino last weekend, will visit UC Riverside this weekend and The Master’s College next weekend. Transferring to another Division I school would require Harper to sit out one season.

Division II and NAIA have no such restriction.

Braswell said Harper is welcome to return to Northridge and if he leaves, another player will not be recruited this summer to replace him.

Harper, an All-Valley player at Canoga Park High, played sparingly last season at Northridge, averaging 1.6 points and 1.2 rebounds in 5.4 minutes a game.

Michael Flot, an assistant girls’ basketball coach for Harvard-Westlake’s Southern Section Division III-A championship team last season, has been hired as head coach at Los Angeles High.

SOFTBALL

Kim Diener, an All-Valley selection for Alemany High, will miss the rest of the season because of tendinitis in her right elbow and shoulder.

Diener, who has committed to Long Beach State, was told by doctors last week that her pitching career at Alemany was over.

She attempted to remain in the lineup as a hitter, but pain in her arm persisted.

TENNIS

Isabella Peintner, a sophomore at Cal State Northridge, was selected to the women’s Big Sky All-Conference team.

Northridge freshman Kendra Segura was selected to the second team.

Megan Mullen of Westlake High has committed to Georgetown.

Mullen, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, was an All-Marmonte League selection last season.
