Pitching Not Dunham’s Only Talent

Don’t be surprised if Lancaster pitcher Pat Dunham soon belts out the national anthem before a game. He minored in singing at Auburn and has sung the national anthem before.

Dunham, a 6-foot-4 right-hander, also is pitching well. He has won four straight and his earned-run average is a team-low 2.16.

The JetHawks have drawn an average of 2,972 fans to home games, ranking fourth among the 10 California League teams. Rancho Cucamonga leads all Class-A teams with an average of 5,006.

Average league attendance is 2,109, down 25% from the same time last year. League officials blame El Nino for the decrease.

Luis Tinoco hit a three-run home run and Brendan Kingman hit a solo homer but Lancaster (20-21) lost to Lake Elsinore, 12-9, on Thursday night at the Hangar. The JetHawks won the second game of Wednesday night’s doubleheader with Lake Elsinore, 6-5, to earn a split.

AROUND THE LEAGUES

The double-A Knoxville Smokies (Blue Jays) held Seinfeld Night on Saturday in honor of the sitcom.

Fans were encouraged to dress as their favorite character and were judged by local television personalities.

They also were unofficially judged by the players.

“The most interesting and weird ones were the George [Costanzas],” said outfielder Will Skett (Reseda High, Valley College). “They all had the fat, but none of them had the proper baldness.”
