Kowolski, Araza Lead Tillers to Division II Victory Over Villa Park

Kevin Kowolski had 24 kills and Eduardo Araza added 20 to help host Tustin defeat Villa Park, 15-10, 15-3, 15-7, in the first round of the Southern Section Division II boys’ volleyball playoffs Friday.

Tustin (12-4) advances to play Empire League champion El Dorado (18-1), which defeated Orange in a first-round match Wednesday.

Erick Helenihi, a 6-foot-9 middle blocker who has signed with UC Irvine, had 19 kills for Villa Park (9-8).

In other Division II matches:

Foothill 3, Valencia 0--Matt Ledford and James Dodgen each had 15 kills for Century League champion Foothill, which won, 15-9, 15-10, 15-5.

Foothill (12-3) plays at third-seeded Mater Dei (14-1) in the second round.

Valencia finished 17-4.

Servite 3, Pacifica 1--Mike Deal had 13 kills and Eric Barnes added 12 for host Servite (15-2), which won, 15-1, 12-15, 15-5, 15-5.

Servite will play Ocean View (9-5), which defeated Bolsa Grande (10-7), 15-13, 15-8, 15-1.

Pacifica finished 8-5.

Los Amigos 3, Kennedy 1--Los Amigos (16-1) won, 15-11, 15-11, 10-15, 15-10, and advanced to play fourth-seeded Goleta Dos Pueblos (15-5), which defeated Loara (9-10), 15-3, 15-12, 15-4.

Kennedy finished 12-7.

In Division III:

Corona del Mar 3, Brethren Christian 0--The top-seeded Sea Kings cruised, 15-0, 15-7, 15-3. Greg Coon had 12 kills and Greg Stampley added 10 for host Corona del Mar (10-5), which will play Whittier Christian, a 15-9, 15-3, 15-17, 15-10 winner over St. Margaret’s.

Calvary Chapel 3, Capistrano Valley Christian 0--David Engle had 11 kills and five aces to lead Calvary Chapel (9-6), which won, 15-7, 15-5, 15-2, and advanced to play Costa Mesa.

Capistrano Valley Christian finished 8-5.

Costa Mesa 3, Cerritos Valley Christian 0--B.J. Lightvoet had 21 kills for host Costa Mesa (11-6), which won, 15-5, 15-6, 15-12.
