Ventura Chooses Three as Athletes of the Year

Water polo player Curtis Tolmie has been selected Ventura College’s male athlete of the year and soccer player-football kicker Joy Barry has been chosen the school’s female athlete of the year.

Swimmer Kathy Macropol is Ventura’s academic athlete of the year.

All will be recognized at the college’s Hall of Fame banquet.

Tolmie, a sophomore goalie, was a junior college All-American last season and was selected to the All-Southern California regional team.

Barry, a sophomore, was the most valuable player on the women’s soccer team for the second consecutive season and was an All-American.

She was the first woman to play on the school’s football team.

Macropol, who began attending Ventura at the age of 12, is now a 17-year-old with a 3.97 grade-point average.

She was a nationally ranked backstroke specialist on the women’s team.
