Gardena police are investigating the alleged abduction of an 11-year-old girl who authorities believe was taken by a family friend after a Memorial Day outing to the beach, authorities said Wednesday.

According to police, Louis Galindo, 32, took Crystal Greulich and some of his relatives to the beach Monday. About 6 p.m. he dropped off his family members at their homes and left with Greulich in a white 1990 Toyota Camry, license plate 3WEN117. The two have not been seen again.

Police said Galindo telephoned a family member and reported that he had Greulich and she was safe and unharmed. He said he was planning to take her home, but he has not done so. Police said there has been no further contact with Galindo.

Police said they believe the abduction is the result of Galindo’s “strong personal feelings for the girl.” They said there is speculation that Galindo has taken Greulich to Mexico.
