It’s Showtime Again for Sanders, Aikman

Deion Sanders scored a touchdown on a 69-yard punt return and Troy Aikman, back after missing five games because of a broken collarbone, threw for two touchdowns as the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, 34-0, Monday night.

Aikman overcame a sack on his first play and later connected with Michael Irvin for his first touchdown catch of the season. The score came two plays after the Cowboys recovered Charlie Garner’s fumble at the Eagle nine.

With Dallas ahead 10-0 late in the second quarter, Sanders took a punt at his 31, side-stepped several Eagle defenders and went down the right sideline for the score.

In the third quarter, Aikman led the Cowboys on an 80-yard scoring drive that further deflated the crowd. He connected with Billy Davis between two defenders to bring Dallas to the Eagle 20.

Three plays later, David LaFleur made a leaping two-handed grab of an Aikman throw from for a nine-yard touchdown to put Dallas ahead 24-0.

Aikman was 14 for 26 for 171 yards. On the game’s first play, he was sacked by Hollis Thomas but went on to lead the Cowboys on a 14-play, 47-yard drive that ended with Richie Cunningham’s 33-yard field goal.
