If you’re a woman, then only 10 places are better to live in than Santa Clarita, according to a study published this month in a national magazine.

The ranking is based on a Ladies Home Journal survey “from a female point of view” of America’s 200 largest cities. In California, only fourth-place Irvine and seventh-place Thousand Oaks finished higher.

Published this month, the survey used criteria of crime, well-paying jobs for women, incidents of sexual discrimination and harassment, quality of life, presence of women in government, effective child care, health care and public schools, among others.

Bolstering Santa Clarita’s 11th-place overall ranking was its listing as the sixth least likely place for a job discrimination or sexual harassment complaint to be filed.

“Santa Clarita has long been a great place for families, but it is also a terrific place for women,” said Mayor Jan Heidt, pointing out that four women serve on the five-member City Council. At the top of Ladies Home Journal’s list was Ann Arbor, Mich., and at the bottom was Corpus Christi, Texas.

Los Angeles is also on the list at 154. The lowest-ranking California city was Fresno at 195.
