Sheriff’s investigators intend to pursue manslaughter charges against a juvenile whose shotgun went off and killed a man when the youth was trying to retrieve it, authorities said Monday.

Jesus Tejeda, 37, was fatally wounded by a friend late Saturday at his home in the 4100 block of Service Street when the youth was getting a sawed-off shotgun from a closet where the adult had stored it for him, sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Vince Collier said.

“It went off as he was taking it away from the shelf,”, Collier said.

The juvenile was wounded in an arm, said Collier, while Tejeda was shot in the chest.
