Odom Leads Rhode Island to Victory

Lamar Odom, playing point guard and making left-handed hooks and off-balance jump shots, scored 20 points to lead No. 23 Rhode Island (2-0) to an 82-69 victory over Vanderbilt (1-1) in the final of the CoSIDA Classic at Providence, R.I.

“Lamar Odom controls the game,” Vanderbilt Coach Jan van Breda Kolff said. “He’s a more athletic version of Magic Johnson.”

Odom finished with 20 points and missed only one shot from the field.

In the other game of the doubleheader, Texas Christian (1-1) defeated Providence, 79-77. Lee Nailon had 30 points for the Horned Frogs.

Temple, ranked No. 7, opened with a 65-49 victory over Georgetown in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at New York.

In the second game, Wake Forest defeated Illinois, 75-73, in overtime. Robert O’Kelley scored all 10 of the Demon Deacon points in overtime.

A former Georgetown basketball player accused of stalking and making threatening phone calls to Coach John Thompson has been arrested for the second time in two weeks.

Kevin Millen, who played for Georgetown from 1991-1995, was arrested and charged with unlawful entry on Monday, a D.C. police spokesman said.

Millen was arrested last week and ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation after being accused of stalking Thompson. Millen was released on a $2,500 and was to return home to Tennessee.

Court records show Millen has made 37 threatening phone calls to the university’s athletic office since January. They also indicate Millen was upset over job opportunities arranged by Thompson which hadn’t panned out.
